Part-time Executive Assistant
The Role
LALNI is seeking a part-time Executive Assistant to support the Chief Executive Officer, Executive Editor, and Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Communications. Responsibilities include calendaring, scheduling, arranging travel, and other administrative duties. This position is a hybrid of remote and in-office work and requires 20 hours per week over four days, with up to two days per week in office.
The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem solver with exceptional communication skills and meticulous attention to detail. This person should have experience performing administrative duties and providing support to organizational leaders. They should be skilled at tracking and prioritizing tasks,working in a fast-paced environment, and maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive information.

The Organization

The Los Angeles Local News Initiative (LALNI) is a nonprofit startup dedicated to revitalizing local journalism in Los Angeles. We're building a new model for community-focused news that connects neighborhood-level reporting with broader regional issues. Our approach combines dedicated community newsrooms with a central hub that amplifies local stories, identifies cross-community trends, and produces region-wide coverage that matters to all Angelenos.

Key responsibilities
  • Manage and optimize the CEO’s calendar, ensuring seamless scheduling across external and internal commitments.
  • Schedule and Coordinate meetings for the Executive Editor and Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Communications as needed.
  • Schedule internal staff meetings, update staff calendars with organization-wide events, meetings, team trainings, etc.
  • Ensure the CEO is regularly updated and informed of priority commitments on her calendar each week.
  • Draft, proofread, and format correspondence such as Thank You letters and internal communications on behalf of the CEO.
  • Develop agendas for internal and external meetings as directed.
  • Support meeting logistics as needed.
  • Plan and coordinate travel, including booking transportation, accommodations, meals, and manage itineraries for the CEO, Executive Editor, and Vice President of Strategic Partnerships and Communications.
  • Plan and book staff travel for conferences and retreats.

Candidate profile
  • 1+ years of relevant work experience, including internships (preferably in a  nonprofit environment).
  • Associate’s Degree, Certificate, or Bachelor's Degree (preferred)
  • Proficiency with Google productivity tools (Gmail, Calendar, Google Meet, Contacts, Docs, Sheets, Slides), Slack,  Zoom, and an aptitude for learning new software and systems.
  • Exceptional organization skills and ability to manage multiple priorities, stakeholders, and deadlines efficiently.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to draft, edit, and refine messages with professionalism.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving skills, anticipating needs before they arise.
  • High level of discretion, handling confidential and sensitive information with integrity.

Compensation and Benefits

This is a part-time position, 20 hours per week. The salary range is $25 to $30 per hour, commensurate with education and experience. Benefits for part-time employees include 13 paid holidays per year (4 hours/day), paid days off on weekdays between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day (varies by year), one (1) hour of Paid Time Off for every twelve (12) hours worked to be used for vacation or personal days
